Overview

Happy Belly Restaurant, nestled in the heart of Bandar Baru Petaling Jaya, offers an inviting blend of Chinese and Thai cuisine without pork, catering well to families and casual diners seeking flavorful Asian dishes in a clean, comfortable setting. The space strikes a balance between casual and slightly upmarket, with modern decor that hints at a refined dining experience without pretense.

The menu is a diverse showcase of Asian favorites, featuring standout items like their crispy Hong Kong-style chicken wings, tangy Thai-style kerabu chicken feet, and vibrant vegetable dishes enriched by fragrant shrimp paste or fresh seasonal offerings. Diners frequently praise the freshness and generous portions, making the experience satisfying whether you order ala carte or the Single Person Meal options. The variety is well-suited for groups, with something for every palate, from crispy omelettes topped with tangy chili sauce to bold-flavored stir-fries and succulent seafood preparations.

What sets Happy Belly apart is not just the well-prepared food but the efficiency and warmth of the service. Despite its quiet weekday ambiance, which some might mistake for underwhelming, the restaurant’s kitchen hums with skill, supported by a team of six cooks ensuring dishes arrive promptly and piping hot. This gives the place a lively yet relaxed rhythm, perfect for both quick meals and celebratory gatherings alike.

Guests often highlight must-tries such as the Nyonya fish, lime steamed sotong, salted egg pumpkin, and Kam Heong lala, underscoring a crafted menu that pays attention to flavor balancing and freshness. The restaurant’s commitment to quality ingredients and thoughtful preparation resonates well with patrons seeking authentic tastes without compromise.

While parking might require a short stroll to a nearby complex, the overall value and the attentive, friendly staff make it a worthwhile visit. For those exploring PJ’s evolving food scene, Happy Belly Restaurant emerges as a gem offering robust flavors, generous portions, and a pork-free menu that respects dietary preferences without sacrificing taste. It’s an enticing spot to enjoy authentic Asian dishes in a welcoming ambience, whether with family, friends, or solo dining.

UPDATE Came to try the Single Person Meal. Had the Ginger Beef Hor Fun (RM 13.90). The portion was again generous with a good amount of beef slices. Again, it was a satisfying meal. Hopefully more people will frequent this restaurant as it’s a good, tasty addition to PJ New Town. This is the newest kid on the block in PJ New Town. They serve both Chinese and Thai dishes here- a TaiChi restaurant without pork dishes. We went on a weekday and it was very quiet. We almost did not dine here because it was empty. But I was glad we did. We ordered the 4 Kings Vegetable, Calamari in Duck Egg Sauce, Beef with Spring Onions and the recommended 3 Flavour Chicken. The dishes came out super fast and piping hot. I later found out they have 6 cooks! Initially we thought the dishes were a bit overpriced. But the portions were very generous. And tastewise, they were all very well prepared. Full of flavour and fresh. We felt that we what we ordered could have easily fed 4 hearty eaters. Our bill came out to just over RM 90.00 and I elt it was well worth it for the portions and also the taste. Would I recommend it? Definitely yes! Don't be fooled by the restaurant being quite empty. My take is the restaurant next door is cheaper on the menu and on first impression, it has the generic Tai Chow restaurant look as oppose to Happy Belly's slightly upmarket look. But do give it a shot, the restaurant deserves a better patronage as the variety of dishes, portions and taste is above par and affordable.

Every dish we ordered was really good and fresh! The food came out quickly too The place was very clean, which added to the overall nice and comfortable vibe. Highlights for us were the sweet and sour chicken (not in the pic), yam basket, tom yum, and the kerabu chicken feet! The chicken stayed crispy even after a while — so satisfying

Came for simple dinner with my family, so ordered individual dishes to test their taste. Place is clean, not very crowded, service is good, however parking can be a problem, unless park at the parking complex 2 blocks behind. Dishes were all good, except the noodles with gravy was a bit salty. But when we tried the gravy itself it was okay, so it was the noodles that was salty. Reported to the management, hope they will look into it. The individual dishes were priced well.
